RB Leipzig want their demands met for Dani Olmo transfer deal to Barcelona after £55.2m rejection.
After the Blaugrana seemingly lost out on a second attempt to acquire Dani Olmo, RB Leipzig manager Marco Rose has sent Barcelona a strong transfer warning.
From 2007 to 2014, the former Dinamo Zagreb starlet worked in Barca’s La Masia academy ranks, although he was unable to make an impression on the first squad at Camp Nou before leaving.
However, Olmo is rumored to be desired back at Camp Nou after being a vital member of his team and becoming well-known internationally for Spain this summer—notably during their run to win Euro 2024. FC Barcelona wants to use this transfer window to bolster their offensive line-up.
Barcelona’s bidding for Dani Olmo
Although Leipzig, who have apparently already rejected two Blaugrana proposals, and Barcelona have not yet agreed on a money, it is believed that the 26-year-old has agreed to personal terms over a six-year contract that would expire in the summer of 2030.
Leipzig is seeking a guaranteed £46.9m, but Barcelona was only offering £42.6m up front. Performance-related add-ons might have raised the second bid to a whopping £55.2m.
Leipzig is reportedly dissatisfied with Barcelona’s suggested payment plan as well. Die Roten Bullen want to get paid in full within a few months, but Barca want to defer payment until the following year.
The Bundesliga team has the upper hand in negotiations because Olmo’s contract has a three-year extension that expires in mid-July and a release clause of €60 million (£51.2 million).
In a recent news conference, Leipzig head coach Rose was informed of Barcelona’s second rejected bid. In response, he stated that the Blaugrana must match Olmo’s “value” in order to force him out of the Red Bull Arena.
“The player has value. He earned it with us. He has developed brilliantly. Everyone knows what Dani Olmo can do. Accordingly, everyone must be clear about his value and under what conditions the club might be willing to talk,” Rose said. “I think it is also important for Dani that he is shown his worth and knows it. And the club that absolutely wants him should then also do justice to the value of Dani Olmo.”
Brief Recap of Dani Olmo Stats
Olmo has had a decent 63 direct goal contributions in 148 games for RB Leipzig in all competitions, scoring 29 goals and setting up 34 more.
The playmaker played in just 25 games during the 2023–24 season due to injuries, but when healthy, he made a significant contribution, scoring eight goals and dishing out five assists, including a fantastic hat-trick in a 3-0 DFL Super Cup victory over Bayern Munich.
Strangely, Olmo’s path into the Spain starting lineup at Euro 2024 was made possible by an injury to Pedri, a player who could potentially play for Barcelona. Olmo scored three goals and provided two assists while substituting for Georgia before Pedri was forced to leave the match against Germany early.
The Leipzig player scored the game’s first goal as a replacement, assisted Mikel Merino’s thrilling overtime winner, and then scored the game-winning goal as Spain defeated France 2-1 in the semifinals.
