Man utd 0-3 Liverpool friendly 2024: Match highlight and reactions.
With United’s loss to Liverpool in South Carolina on Sunday, Tour 2024—sponsored by Snapdragon—came to an end.
At the Williams-Brice Stadium in South Carolina, Manchester United lost 3-0 to Liverpool, capping their preseason tour of the United States. Despite a flurry of United chances, Liverpool led 2-0 at halftime thanks to goals from Fabio Carvalho and Curtis Jones, and shortly after the hour, Konstantinos Tsimikas made it three.
Despite a great deal of promising attacking play throughout the game, Erik ten Hag’s side was unable to complete enough plays to change the score in our favor. As the game was coming to a finish, there were additional concerns about injuries when Will Fish and Aaron Wan-Bissaka appeared to be in discomfort and exited the field.
Liverpool takes the lead
Much of the first few minutes in South Carolina would have encouraged Erik ten Hag if he was hoping to see a performance that showed his team’s preparedness for the first competitive game of the season, the Community Shield against Manchester City, next weekend.
The Reds were first out of the traps, pressing Liverpool hard inside the opposition half and giving Amad and Mount strong early shooting opportunities.
However, it was the Merseysiders who took the lead as Fabio Carvalho’s deft deception tricked Casemiro inside the United area, giving the Portuguese player a chance to shoot. The ensuing attempt was deflected, rendering Andre Onana defenseless as it trickled into the goal’s corner.
But that unfortunate run of luck seemed to galvanize the Reds instead of depressing them. Mason Mount was able to take advantage of a delectable chip that Casemiro lifted over the Liverpool defense during the next ten to fifteen minutes, which witnessed a flurry of United raids. The following shot from the southerner was well blocked by Caomihin Kelleher’s chest, but the opportunities continued.
After a missed Konate ball, Rashford went just wide, and then Sancho was unable to get the necessary purchase on a fantastic Mount cross from the right flank. Then, Kelleher was called upon once more to tip another Rashford effort over the crossbar. Shortly after, our number 10 nearly found the bottom corner of Liverpool’s net with a left-footed effort.
But with ten minutes left in the half, Liverpool punished our wastefulness once more, which was annoying. Mohamed Salah showed excellent technique to elude Toby Collyer down the left side of the Reds, and the legendary player from Anfield speared a clever low ball across United’s six-yard box for Curtis Jones to tap in.
Liverpool’s expert finishing leaves United further down in the second half
At the half, United led in most of the important measures (more shots on goal, more chances created, more touches in the opposition box), but Arne Slot’s team was ahead in the all-conquering metric.
Early in the second half, United attempted to respond, but, regrettably, the next forty-five minutes mostly followed the same script as the first.
Before the hour, the Reds had plenty of opportunities to tie the score, with Will Fish, Casemiro, and McTominay all coming close, but Liverpool’s expert finishing left United even further down. Onana did a good job of parrying the Portuguese player’s close-range attempt after Diogo Jota was found by Conor Bradley’s cutback, but the ball went free to left-back Tsimikas, who swept the ball in from just a yard out.
The players for United were faced with an ugly scoreline as the full-time whistle blew. However, the preseason is the ideal time to pick up skills, and Erik ten Hag’s club received a harsh reminder that opportunities must be created as well as converted.
